One of our continuous professional development presentations (CPDs), which outlines industry-specific information on sustainability, environment, social, governance (ESG) and B-Corp, has been approved by the body which regulates the nation’s architects (RIBA).
Each year, architects are required by RIBA to complete a number of CPDs, to ensure they are up-to-date and competent with industry movements, and the team at BTS are responsible for delivering this information.
While our presentations with architects usually entail information about fabrications and rainscreen facades, our recent endeavor into looking after the environment, our team, and the wider community, prompted us to educate others beyond our state-of-the-art facility.
Last year, BTS achieved a carbon neutral status, with NetZero in sight for 2030. Additionally, we are striving towards a B-Corp certification, and our team have been working on policies to ensure suppliers follow our same high standard of ethics.
In March, we appointed David Cristan as our specifications and sustainability offer, to oversee our ESG journey, and to develop our market-leading seminar to deliver to architects.
David said: “Receiving confirmation from RIBA about our presentations approval brought me a great sense of satisfaction and excitement – it really made my day; I spent a lot of time researching and perfecting it, so it gives me a huge sense of accomplishment and relief knowing it’s good to go.
“Sharing knowledge and expertise on sustainability, ESG and B-Corp practices is important to us because we are striving for transparency and accountability. It allows us to showcase our commitment to responsible and ethical business practices that we have implemented or planning to implement.
“We want to raise awareness, to inspire other companies and stakeholders, it is important for us to have an impact on the environment and the industry, outside BTS’ walls, engaging with our supply chain on these matters, supporting other on their journey.
“Sustainability, ESG and B-Corp are not concepts that BTS should keep as a secret. They are essential for success as it leads to collaboration, strong leadership, and long-term commitment to key positive values. Sharing and making a difference is the drive behind our initiatives and developments.”
Our team have two CPD sessions booked in for May, and they’ll be delivering our new RIBA approved presentation to keen architects from across the country.
Phil Atkinson, BTS’ managing director, said he’s over the moon with the progress David and the team have made.
“It feels amazing to be able to share our knowledge with others. Last year, we relentlessly worked hard to understand and implement ESG into our business; it finally feels like it’s starting to pay off.
“I remember when I first started learning about ESG, sustainability and B-Corp, it was a minefield, especially for our industry, so I hope we’re able to break it down for architects, so they know what to look out for in future.
“There are so many fantastic things happening at BTS, just a month ago we were awarded for our commitment to protecting the planet at the Business Champion Awards, so I feel like we’re in an extremely good position to educate others.”
