Five things we’re doing to reduce our carbon footprint.

Five things we’re doing to reduce our carbon footprint.

We’ve made a commitment to achieve NetZero, so during the past few months, we’ve been making essential changes to our fabrications and facades business, to ensure it is sustainable.

Our sustainability journey started back in 2015, when we secured our first ever IS0 14001 certification. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s a globally recognised accreditation given to businesses which meet environmental legal compliance.

And guess what? We renewed it earlier this year!

In even bigger news, though, we’re officially carbon neutral. We’ve done this by offsetting our carbon, by investing in verified projects which cancel out the emissions we produce.

But, while this is a HUGE step in the right direction for the team, we understand it’s not a long-term solution if we want to achieve NetZero.

With that in mind, we’ve been making smaller, but none-the-less significant, changes to actively lower our carbon footprint.

Here’s a little insight into how we’re going green…

Here’s a little insight into how we’re going green…

Electric cars

Like many others, we have made our first eco-friendly car purchase, which wholly functions on electricity.
To support this, we’ve had recharging stations installed in our car park, which can be used by our team, or clients to visit our offices, to encourage them to invest in eco-friendly vehicles.
Sidenote – we’re shocked at how fantastic our electric vehicles are and would recommend making the investment.
We’ve only got one fully electric vehicle and one hybrid at the moment, but they certainly won’t be the last.

Lighting

We have had smart lighting installed in our factory, which not only is better for the environment, but helps to keep costs down!
Our new fixtures are designed to be energy efficient, and they also turn off automatically when nobody is around.
It’s a small change, but it certainly makes a difference.

Biomass

Our facility is heated from a biomass boiler, a wood-fuelled heating method which burns wood pellets or chips.

Biomass is thought to be a better way to look after the planet, as the pellets are a source of renewable energy.

Zero waste to landfill

In September, we decided to stop sending all our waste to landfill.

Our waste is now collected by specialists who properly recycle all our unwanted material or transform it into alternative renewable energy sources.

Energy monitoring software

We’ve been investing heavily into technology and automation recently, and it doesn’t stop at manufacturing, we’ve invested in energy monitoring software to enable us to oversee our energy consumption.

We’re provided with valuable insights which help us to understand where we can make cutbacks to reduce our energy consumption, and save money.

Ultimately, this will help us to reduce our energy consumption.

And the future? Well, there’s still much to be done. But we’ve heard on the grape vibe that renewable energy from solar energy is on the cards…
