Unite Greetham Street Student Accommodation
Project description:
The project comprises a total of 836 bedrooms split between 75 studio flats and 761 cluster flat bedrooms. The site was bisected in two halves by a road which the student accommodation spans to a height of 16 stories. External elevations consist of an aluminium rainscreen cladding, aluminium framed windows and louvres to achieve the planning requirement for colour variation and a crisp, futuristic appearance. Over 6000m2 Aluminium 3mm powder coated rainscreen system was supplied in Vantage®️ MF (Mechanical Fix) to replace ACM cladding in nine different colours, varying from white, silver, grey to various greens.
Project challenges:
The reclad has revitalised Greetham Street Student Halls which had been given the nickname ‘fag butt’ by unimpressed locals. The logistics of manufacture, coating, palletising and delivering 6000m2 panels in nine colours created a challenge. The panels were being installed on a live building, using cradles for access, this process was made a lot easier by all of the panels being coded to match the design drawings and pre-drilled ready to be installed. Panels were delivered on labelled pallets which made them easy to be lifted straight up onto the relevant scaffold area with the use of a telehandler, causing minimal disruption.
